Announcement: Artist Jules De Balincourt to Speak October 13 as Part of Pratt's 2009-2010 Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Artist Jules De Balincourt will speak at Pratt Institute about
his influences, artwork, and career as part of the 2009-2010 Visiting
Artists Lecture Series, from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, October
13, in the Engineering Building, Room 371, on Pratt's Brooklyn Campus.
The lecture is free and open to the public.

The Pratt Visiting Artists Lecture Series is an annual year-long series
organized by the Department of Fine Arts in the School of Art and Design
at Pratt Institute to welcome nationally and internationally recognized
fine artists to share their experiences with the Pratt community.

Brooklyn-based De Balincourt will speak about the methods, craft, and
influences behind his painting and sculpture.

De Balincourt has exhibited in Paris at the Musee d'Art Moderne de la
Ville de Paris and Palais de Tokyo; at the P.S.1/Museum of Modern Art
Contemporary Art Center in New York; and at The Royal Academy in London,
as part of the "USA Today" exhibition. De Balincourt is the founder of
the alternative art space Starr Space, Brooklyn. In 2010, he will exhibit
at the Zach Feuer Gallery, New York and Mori Art Museum, Tokyo.

De Balincourt received a bachelor of fine arts degree from California
College of Arts and Crafts and a master of fine arts degree from Hunter
College.

De Balincourt is the second artist of eight invited to speak as part of
the fall program of the 2009-2010 Visiting Artists Lecture Series. The
series is coordinated by graduate students Yael Rechter and Elizabeth
Stehling under the supervision of Professor Dominique Nahas in the
Department of Fine Arts.
