Announcement: Designers Brian Collins and Ellen Lupton to Lecture as Part of New ComD Series March 30 and April 9
Graduate and Undergraduate Communication Design series "Got a Boss New
Set of Speakers" series on Monday, March 30 and Thursday, April 9, 2009.
Brian Collins (www.collins1.com) will speak at Higgins Hall Auditorium on
March 30 at 7 PM. For almost a decade, this designer lead the brand and
innovation division of Ogilvy & Mather. His team built communications and
design solutions for some of the world's most iconic companies, including
Unilever, Kraft, Mattel, Motorola, AT&T, Coca-Cola and American Express.
By taking advantage of the changes driving technology and marketing, he
has explored new ways to connect people with emerging ideas and brands.
He is currently the chairman and chief creative officer of Collins:, a
design firm where he leads a team of innovative strategists, designers,
writers, technologists and architects.
Ellen Lupton (www.elupton.com) will speak on April 9 at 6:30 PM at Pratt
Manhattan, Room 219. She is a writer, curator, and graphic designer
currently serving as the director of Maryland Institute College of Art's
Graphic Design M.F.A. program and as director for MICA's Center for
Design Thinking. As curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt,
National Design Museum since 1992, she has produced numerous exhibitions
and books. Much of her work focuses on bringing design awareness to
broader audiences. Her book, Thinking with Type (2004), serves as one of
the most important guides to contemporary typography today and should be
a standard for anyone who works with words. D.I.Y.: Design It Yourself
(2006), co-authored with her graduate students at MICA, explains design
processes to a general audience. Her most recent book is Graphic Design:
The New Basics (with Jennifer Cole Phillips, 2008).
Both lectures are free and open to the public.
