Announcement: PRATT CATS Raise over 800 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk
Pratt Institute's America Reads/Counts - PRATT CATS would like to
thank Pratt students, administrators, and faculty for their donations and
support that helped us raise money towards finding a cure for breast cancer
for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk. On Friday, October
17th, we held a successful kick-off party hosted by the Executive Director
of Bed Stuy Head Start, one of the America Reads/Counts tutoring sites, and
a Making Strides participant, Ms. Ruth Cherry. Our initial objective was to
raise $2,500 in funds, but with your help we exceeded our goal and raised
$2,853.31! On October 19th the Pratt Cats wore bright pink cancer awareness
shirts (designed by America Reads Counts silk screener Greyson Bagwell) and
joined thousands of participants in Prospect Park. We walked over 3 miles
in honor of Ms. Debra Wilcox, a breast cancer survivor close to the America
Reads/Counts program and all other survivors and those affected by the
disease. Ms. Wilcox expressed her deepest gratitude for our involvement and
was overwhelmed by the number of people who donated. Thanks to Pratt's
administrators, faculty, and students, the American Cancer Society is
$2,853.31 closer to finding a cure.
