Announcement: Safety and Security Alert

PRATT INSTITUTE CONTINUES TO CAUTION STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF AN INCREASE IN ROBBERIES IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA OF THE BROOKLYN CAMPUS.

As previously reported, the NYPD 88 Precinct has reported an increase in robberies within its confines. The robberies are reported to be committed by a group of black males and females approximately 15-16 years of age. It has been reported that the group runs up to the victim, assaults them by kicking, punching, and scratching; then taking anything of value.

Be advised, the robbery activity previously reported appears to continue as evidenced in the most recent incident reported at 5:30 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Pratt Security received a report that 4 or 5 male blacks assaulted a student on his bicycle as he was riding to Higgins Hall. It was reported that the group of males jumped out from behind a van with one of them swinging a baseball bat, striking and slightly injuring the student.

All students and Pratt community members are recommended to travel in pairs or groups. If you must travel alone consider using a car service. Avoid traveling late at night, but also beware as these incidents have occurred at all hours of the day.

Furthermore, carry only those valuables on your person that are necessary.

Use caution, as indicated, these incidents can be violent.

Pratt Institute urges anyone who has been the victim of a crime to immediately contact the local police and the Pratt Safety and Security Department.
