ACCLAIMED DESIGNER PAUL POLAK TO DELIVER GREEN WEEK KEYNOTE
This year's keynote address will be delivered on Thursday, March 27 by
Dr. Paul Polak, author of the acclaimed book Out of Poverty and founder
of the social design network D-Rev: Design for the Other 90% and the
Colorado-based non-profit International Development Enterprises (IDE),
dedicated to developing practical solutions that attack poverty at its
roots. In spring 2007, the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design
Museum in New York showcased the exhibition "Design for the Other 90%,"
which was inspired by Polak's work. The show featured affordable and
socially responsible objects, including several IDE water irrigation and
storage tools. In his keynote address, Dr. Polak will discuss the 800
million people worldwide who are living on less than a dollar a day, and
how we can design products that enable them to elevate their economic
status. The address will take place at 6 PM in Higgins Hall Auditorium.
It is free and open to the public.
