Announcement: Pratt to Host Science and Art Symposium April 1 and 2

Pratt will present "Science and Artists' Materials, Techniques
and Conservation," its second symposium on science and art, organized by
the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of Math and
Science, on April 1 and 2.

Starting at 10 AM on April 1, in Room E2 of the ARC Building, a variety
of speakers will present on the topics of art conservation and art
techniques, including Frima Fox Hofrichter, chair, History of Art and
Design, "What Lies Beneath: Technical Studies of Some 17th-Century Dutch
and Flemish Paintings," and Deborah Schorsch, Department of Objects
Conservation, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, "Seeing Meaning in
Manufacture-Bronze Statuary from Ancient Egypt." There also will be a
bronze-casting demonstration.

On April 2, starting at 10 AM, the symposium will move to Room 371 of the
Engineering Building, where speakers will present a variety of
perspectives on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology, which allows
the noninvasive analysis of artworks and objects, including "Nuclear
Magnetic Resonance, Art, and Mummies" by Professor Bernhard Blumich,
RTWH Aachen University, Germany, developer of the NMR Mouse. Blumich
also will present a tutorial on use of the mouse at 12 PM that day.
