Announcement: New Refuse Hauler

The Institute has completed its negotiations with a new refuse
hauler and a contract with "Five Star" has been signed. As a result, the
Institute will have new refuse containers placed in designated pick up
spots on the campus. The containers will have the name "Five Star" on
them and an emblem that is universal for representing recycling. It is
important to note that the agreement with "Five Star" enhances the
efforts of the Institute in its recycling efforts.

Recycling starts with you. In disposing of your recyclables and refuse
take note that there are certain containers clearly marked for the
disposal of paper or cans and plastic/glass bottles. The other refuse
containers are for non-recyclables. Residence halls will have appropriate
refuse containers located outside each of the residence halls. Academic
and administrative buildings will have a central location in the building
for the collection of recyclables. For plastic and glass bottles, cans
and other plastic materials a "Large Blue" recycling container, so
labeled, is being strategically located at central points in large
offices and throughout buildings. Place your bottles, cans and plastic
items in this container. Paper material should be placed in a "Green"
recycling container which has a "Blue Top: and an elongated opening.
Documents that contain sensitive information should continue to be
shredded. The shredded material should be placed in the "Green" recycling
container with the blue top and elongated opening. If the quantity of the
shredded material will not fit or will overload the container a large,
clear plastic bag may be utilized and left next to the container. Note:
These containers will normally be found in a central location i.e., copy
room, lobby area, etc.

Please note that all refuse bags have been changed to clear bags for
individual garbage cans inside the buildings. Recyclable materials should
not be placed in with non-recyclable material. As part of the new
contract, Five Star will check the garbage to assure that Pratt is fully
recycling its trash and Five Star will be responsible for reclaiming any
found recyclables.
